Most research peptides arrive as a freeze-dried powder inside a sealed vial. Before the peptide can be measured accurately, it must be dissolved in a liquid solvent — usually bacteriostatic water. Reconstitution simply means mixing the powder with the correct volume of solvent so you can draw a precise dose.

Bacteriostatic water is sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol. The benzyl alcohol inhibits bacterial growth, which is why it is preferred for multi-dose vials that will be opened more than once.

Can I use plain sterile water instead?

Plain sterile water can be used for single-dose reconstitution, but it lacks a preservative. For vials that will be accessed multiple times, bacteriostatic water is the standard in research settings.

How long is a reconstituted peptide stable?

Stability varies by peptide and storage conditions. Most reconstituted peptides are refrigerated at 2–8°C and protected from light. Always follow the storage guidance for the specific compound.

What is a U-100 insulin syringe?

A U-100 insulin syringe is calibrated so that 100 units = 1 ml. Each unit equals 0.01 ml, which makes it easy to convert draw volume into syringe units for small peptide doses.

Does more BAC water change the dose?

No. The total amount of peptide in the vial does not change. More water just dilutes the solution, so you draw more liquid to get the same dose. The calculator handles the math for either volume.
