Developed by Novo Nordisk as a long-acting amylin analogue for obesity treatment. Dose-ranging human trials in the 2020s showed clinically meaningful weight loss and led to combination development with semaglutide.

Side effects

Contraindications

Cagrilintide remains investigational and has no final approved contraindication profile. Pregnancy, severe GI motility disorders, significant pancreatitis/gallbladder risk and hypersensitivity warrant exclusion or specialist review in research settings.

Interactions

Slower gastric emptying can change absorption/timing of oral medicines. When combined with insulin or insulin secretagogues, hypoglycemia risk can rise; dose adjustment belongs under medical supervision. Do not combine overlapping incretin therapies unless specifically studied/prescribed.
